This year, as part of the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival, the Association of Film Workers of Bosnia and Herzegovina awarded prizes to the most deserving film workers, as well as prizes for the best student films. The film Kostakurta – Bajka o Satankrajini (Costacurta Tale of Satankrajina), directed by Saša Karanović and produced by Bosonoga Production from Banja Luka, won the award for the best BiH student film and the Kisa Kes award.
A three-member jury, consisting of Lejla Hodžić, Pjer Žalica and Elmir Jukić, decided to award Karanović’s film. Explaining their decision, they pointed out that it was actually very simple and unanimous.
“It is clear that we have here a formed director with very authentic aesthetics, whose professional films we are looking forward to. For a well-directed film, which hypnotically draws viewers into its magical and moving world, the award for the best BiH student film and the Kisa Kes award go to Saša Karanović for the film Costacurta Tale of Satankrajina, the jury explained.
The jury of Sarajevo Film Festival recognized the quality of Karanović’s work in the short film Oh, Krajino back in 2016, and the jury of “Kustendorf” awarded a special prize this year to Costacurta, which brought him to the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival .
“With this award, the film continues to live, which is something every director wants. I am glad that the jury of Sarajevo Film Festival recognized my work for the second time, firstly by including the film in the selection of the festival, and then awarding it. The award for the best BiH student film is an incentive to make every next project even better”, said Karanović after winning the award.
“Costacurta – Tale of Satankrajina is a film about a young man who returns to his mother’s homeland, where his aunt sends him on a mission to find the worst man in the country and ask him for help to save his sick grandfather. On his way he encounters strange things – song, death, courage and love. The script is also signed by Karanović, while the directors of photography were Saša Petković and Dragan Radetić.
